TRYBack to Glossary
TRY is the currency abbreviation for Turkey’s official currency, the new lira. The lira is broken down to 100 new kurus coins, and its symbol is TRY externally and YTL internally. Since its introduction in 2005, the new lira has ranked quite low on the list of important and valuable currencies in the global market. Just to give you some context, a 2019 valuation of the currency saw 1 USD worth about 6 lira. Economic and political unrest coupled with inflation and financial instability are usually the reasons behind the fluctuating value of the new lira.
