Stop-Loss Order

Back to Glossary

A stop loss order is a limit order instructing a broker to close an open position when it moves against you by a certain predefined amount. Essentially stop-loss orders protect your account from losses by allowing open trades to be automatically closed on your behalf when they go in the opposite direction.
