Bucket Shop

Back to Glossary

Bucket shops are disreputable brokerages that do not pass on client orders to the real markets, but rather keep them on their own books. In other words, they do not act as middlemen between liquidity providers and traders/investors, instead they act much like a casino, where they use the losses of the majority to pay for the winnings of the few and pocket whatever’s leftover.
